Sean Dollwet is a youtube vlogger and KDP publisher who has demonstrated, on his channel, some success in publishing coloring books on KDP using AI. He's got some very interesting digital tools that he uses in his process to both create and format the images and to research niches on Amazon, to find that perfect subject for his next book. In this video, he discusses his entire process from initial research to publication, for FREE (mostly).

Sean discusses some very powerful tools he uses to help him create these publications. To do his initial research, he uses a browser plug-in called Bookbeam. Bookbeam is actually a paid tool and the link in his video leads you to a paid subscription, but they do have a free plugin for chrome called Bookbeam Lite, so there may be a way to get most of Bookbeam's functionality for free. I have never used it, so I'm not sure. This portion of his video appears to be not free, anyway.

Still, whether you use the tool Sean mentioned or another one, the idea of it is very useful. You can use the tool to view the Best Seller Rating (BSR) of different items on Amazon's marketplace. The BSR is very useful, from that the software can determine how many sales the book gets and using this information a publisher can make smarter decisions about what books will sell.

In order to craft his coloring books, Sean uses Canva. I also haven't used Canva before (I use OpenArt) but it looks like a great all in one tool for both creating the images for the book and then formatting the book for publication by Amazon. The images he produces look great and you can definitely see there is a distinct style to his books. The images generated by AI are largely determined by the program you use, so I may do another blog post comparing AI image generators down the line, so we can compare!

Sean has some unique insights into the coloring book formatting as well. He is speaking from experience. Sean beleives the books should look high end. His books are entirely square and it looks like he is a fan of the zentangle style for his coloring books. He also ensures every page is single sided to ensure minimal bleeding.

Would you ever create a coloring book using AI? What do you think would be a good subject for a new coloring book?

This is very interesting. I would have never thought about making my own coloring book, but starting to think about what theme I would use it actually kind of fun! I think it would be fun to make a Goddess coloring book, but I am sure there are plenty of those. I have a travel company and making coloring books that correspond to our itineraries as a gift to our travelers would be fun!

That would be such an amazing idea! And as the creator you can get wholesale prices on your coloring books.

Creating coloring books by using AI is getting popular in my country and apparently it is really effective way to make money. Many influencers introduce how to make it and show how much they make. I have never created coloring book using AI but it would be fun!
