Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is such a powerful and inspiring piece of literature. Despite its whimsical setting and fantastice stories, the novel is provides entertainment for all ages and features some of literatures most imaginative and creative literary devices.
Despite the disproportionate popularity of Disney's animated adaption of Lewis Carroll's novels, there have actually been many film and TV adaptations of the books. According to this IMDB list there are almost 20 dating as far back as 1915, and these are just the English adaptations.
The duchess does not actually make an appearance in Disney's animated film adaptation of Alice's Adventure in Wonderland, though her house does. It is possible there are fans of the story who have not read the books are not even aware that the queen is actually not first person on Alice's journey to call for her beheading. The duchess gets to claim that honor.
Right near the beginning of Alice's adventure, she visits the house of the duchess where she is invited to a meal of very peppery soup. During the meal, the duchess suggests Alice's head should be chopped off by an axe after a somewhat heated discussion.
It's a shame such a colorful and decorated character as the duchess did not make the final cut of the animated film. We can give her her dues by coloring her today. I made her dress green to symbolize her envy of the queen and her hair's transition from brown to red symbolizes her propensity for violent changes in temperament.
