Winnie the Pooh was not always known by the name Winnie. Originally, A. A. milne, the author of the Pooh books, released short stories about his famous characters from the hundred acre wood in which the bear was referred to as Edward Bear. This article from the Smithsonian discusses the origins of Winnie-the-Pooh franchise. In fact, in the first line of the first book, the bear is introduced as Edward Bear but then quickly renamed to Winnie-the-Pooh.
Milne lived in the English countryside in the early 1900's with his son, Christopher Robin. The nearby woodlands, The Ashdown Forest, was the inspiration for the hundred acre woods. The characters themselves inspired directly by his sons stuffed animals. The name Winnie came from a bear at The London Zoo rescued from Winnipeg. Pooh was a thing Christopher Robin was known to say.
In this scene, Pooh is trying to fall asleep after setting a trap with Piglet to catch wild Heffalumps. Pooh struggled to fall asleep because he was so excited to see a heffalump. The Winnie-the-Pooh book is now available on Amazon.
